Home Protection Plans: A Smart Choice for Savvy Home Buyers

Posted by on Mar 16, 2015 in Home Improvement | 0 comments

Buying and moving into a new home is exciting, but that excitement can quickly turn to stress if you’re hit with the need for repairs soon after moving in. A home protection plan alleviates the stress and worry by providing affordable repair and replacement coverage for your appliances and major systems.

Protect Your Budget
The last thing you need to worry about is expensive repairs, especially so soon after covering a down payment and closing costs on your new home.

A home protection plan is the secret to managing these unforeseen expenses. For a low service fee, a licensed service technician will quickly be onsite for repairs. Protection plans also cover replacement, so there’s no need to shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars for a new appliance or system if a repair isn’t possible.

Beyond Home Insurance
While home insurance covers your house’s main structure and belongings in the case of disaster, such as fire or flooding, a home protection plan is a service contract that protects appliances and major systems in event of breakdown due to mechanical failure or aging. Common items covered in a protection plan include:

  • Major appliances
  • Heating and air systems
  • Plumbing and electrical
  • Minor systems, including garage doors and doorbells
  • Pools, spas, and wells.

What’s covered depends on the plan you choose. For example, AHS, a top-rated company, offers three standard plans – systems, appliances, or a combination plan – along with the option to build your own plan to meet your specific coverage needs. Find them on the web at www.ahs.com.

Simplify Service
Often, it’s more difficult to find a dependable service technician that it is to pay for the needed repair. This is especially true if you have recently moved to the area. An often overlooked benefit of a home protection plan is the hassle-free access to a network of service techs that you can trust to handle your repairs.

Most plans are simple to use. When a problem occurs, you call their 24-hour service line. They send out a pre-vetted technician to perform the repair. It only costs you a small service fee. If the system or appliance requires replacement, the plan will cover it up to the amount specified in your specific plan. There’s usually no limit on how many service calls you can place in a single service period.

Ongoing Coverage
More sellers are including a home protection plan as a buyer incentive. They know this gives you, the buyer, peace of mind when purchasing an older home. The good news is, protection plans aren’t like other types of warranties – you can renew them each year. This is especially important for homes with older appliances and systems. Keeping your initial buyer’s plan past the first service period will provide ongoing coverage as the older appliances and systems in your house begin to fail, helping you to avoid costly replacement down the road.

Home protection plans are becoming a standard choice with more new home buyers. The repair savings and peace of mind makes the small cost of a plan a smart option in the long run.

Choosing the Right Floor for You

Posted by on Oct 30, 2013 in Flooring | 0 comments

Your home needs a change and it needs some spice and panache. Being committed to your house as-is makes it tough to change things up too much. You don’t want to tear down walls and you don’t want to repaint the whole place either, but you need something to be different and refresh the place for you.  With a variety of options at Floor and decor, choosing the right floor for you is an easy feat to accomplish and you start to upgrade your home’s character.

The Significance of Your Floors

A lot of folks when deciding to change up their living space decide to look at the floor and decor of all the rooms in their house. It’s tough work, especially if your house is already full and staged, but it is definitely rewarding. Choosing the right flooring can make a house truly pop. I’ll use my first home as a perfect example.

I purchased a home fresh out of college for a really low amount of money, around $70,00

0. It was small and filled with ’70s shag carpet and “grandmas” favorite furniture. You know what I’m talking about. But I saw potential. So instead of passing on a great deal I chose to make the sale and change up the floor and decor of the home. I pulled up the shag carpet with my family and then installed really nice looking wood flooring. I got rid of grandma’s old furniture and put in some very sleek black furniture. All of a sudden grandmas ’70s

palace looked like a modernized home for the hip 20-something I was trying to be. A few years later, despite being in a down market, I was able to move the home in large thanks to the updating that I did.

The reason I chose laminate flooring and sleek minimalist furniture, is because I was in a small space. The shiny floors, small decor, and mirrors I added to the walls gave the illusion of space. It also made the room a little cold looking but the tradeoffs were worth it. You can see how changing your home floor and decor can make a big difference now, can’t you?

The fact of the matter is every home is different. Choosing the proper floor and decor changes will make your home over in a big and satisfying way. Perhaps for you it is installing nice warm carpet in your child’s bedroom to replace the old carpet. Or maybe you want to install nicer tiles in the bath. Every choice can make a difference.
